BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership

Bursaries

The expectation is that the costs associated with an internship will be covered by the host organisation. However, sometimes there are some expenses, such as travel or accommodation, which are not covered. PhD students from across the partnership can apply to the DTP PIPs Bursary fund to help cover these expenses.

Funding is awarded on a competitive basis. The main criteria for awarding the funds are:

  • The need for additional support
  • The level of support being provided by the internship organisation or a statement indicating why the organisation is unable to support your expenses e.g. they are a charity
  • Consideration of your professional development and how the internship contributes to it

How to apply

Current BBSRC DTP PhD students can Apply online

Applications can only be compared with those already submitted so the earlier an application is made the stronger the possibility of funding being awarded.

All applications will be reviewed by the institution’s DTP Management Board and award recommendations will be made to the Chair of DTP Executive Board who will make the final award decision.

PIPs Reports

All students are required to write a report for the BBSRC about their PIPs experience using the following guidance and also a report for the Newcastle/Liverpool/Durham DTP using the Online Form.

Programme benefits

  • An exceptional programme of research training
