Bar Tab Rules

Each attendee will receive a token, the token can be redeemed for a specific drink in the bar menu only (special requests are not covered by the tab), the menu is attached.

One token can be redeemed for one drink:

All draught counts as one drink and so is worth one token, half pint or full pint.

One drink/token also counts as: a single shot of a spirit plus a mixer.

Single and double shot plus mixer of these spirits only: Smirnoff/Gordons/Cap. Morgans.

Shot glass of a spirit counts as one drink and so will be worth one token. Two shots or a double of a spirit in two shot glasses or 1 large shot glass will be worth 2 tokens.

Max wine order per token is 175ml glass of wine only, 250ml of wine and bottle of wine are not covered by the tab.

Everything in Non-Alcoholic and Soft drinks is covered, on a one drink per token exchange.

Serenello Prosecco is not covered, NICE wine is.

Tokens are transferable

When the tab runs out, the tokens will become invalid and will not be accepted anymore. So in summary, it’s a tab that is first come first serve, with one token per drink exchange. We cannot guarantee everyone will get a drink. The tab will open at 18:00 at the bar in Hatfield College.

Pipetting Competition Rules

You will be given a pattern shaped as a Gilson Trident, the trident will be made up of 2 colours (Red and Blue). You will be given a Gilson Brand pipette and will have 10 seconds to study the pattern and strategize:

  1. When changing between the two colours you are expected to change volume: 100ul for Blue, 150ul for Red. The invigilator will observe you changing volume, points will be docked for non-compliance.
  2. You are expected to complete as much of the pattern as you can in 30 seconds.
  3. The scoring will be performed as follows e.g. competitor 1 took 27s to complete the pattern (1-27/30)*100 = 10 points. The pattern they created matches the target in 12 locations out of 15 i.e. (12/15)*100 = 80 points. Their total score is 10*80 = 800 points. However, they did not change volumes when changing colours 2 times therefore they are docked (50*2) = 100 points. Their final score is 800-100 = 700 points.
  4. Note: the numbers are fictional except the point docking amounts: 50 points docked for not complying with the volume change.
  5. Timing and timing calculations will be rounded up to 1 decimal place (ms range). The precision calculation will be rounded up to 1 decimal place. The final score will be rounded up to 2 decimal places.
  6. Organising Committee will not partake in the competition.

Competition prizes:

  • 1st Prize is a Gilson single channel pipette of any size with an option to engrave writing on it i.e. you name or name of your lab.
  • 2nd Prize will be a goodie bag from Gilson.
  • 3rd prize will be a box of tips.

Winners will be Announced at the end of Day 2
